I went to a dermatologist who gave me all natural safe creams to help with itchness and it even helped with the redness. My favorite thing to do every other night was to apply a mask of avocado/honey/egg (all mixed together) for about twenty mins. It really helped. On the no mask nights I would use a neutrogena cleanser with alpha hydroxy acids.

Go to your pharmacist if you have perscribed ones and ask for the print out about that med. If it is over the counter i would take it to the pharmacist on a slow day and to my doctor. Some are better then others. And this way you can use the one with little or no risk.
I have alopecia and had been using topical creams and this is what i did.
